What is the retirement age?

You can start getting social security benefits at age 62 and Medicare at 65 unless you are disabled or have renal disease in which case you can get Medicare at a younger age.

If you are receiving social security benefits when you turn 65 and you enroll in Medicare, the premiums for Medicare will automatically come out of your monthly social security check. You can delay both of them although you may have to pay a penalty for delaying Medicare under certain circumstances.

You can delay signing up for social security until age 70 but still sign up for Medicare as soon as you are eligible, which means you can get Medicare even if you're still working and getting employer-paid group health insurance. In that case, you would pay your Medicare premiums separately.
